Oesophageal spasm

Oesophageal spasm is a condition when the muscles of the oesophagus (food pipe) contract in an uncoordinated manor.

It can cause chest pain and difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). The condition can be triggered by acid reflux but often the cause is unclear. Depending on the exact symptom pattern diagnosis often requires gastroscopy and manometry/pH studies.
